Inanna is the most important goddess in the ancient Mesopotamian pantheon. She had been worshipped as the symbol of both sexual love and warfare. The goddess can be addressed as both male and female, which reflects her dual role as well as the evening and morning aspects of the planet Venus. Questions of sexual orientation and sexual identity that are so often raised today can be shown in a different perspective through Inanna and her complicated nature.
