Bride of Frankenstein
The 11th edition of the Vilnius Queer Festival “Kreivės” takes place on September 13–16. The festival’s film programme includes a competitive short film programme and the main programme “Monsters”, which also dictates the theme of this year’s festival. The festival programme also includes a party, readings, exhibition and performances. You can already find the complete programme online.
On September 13, at the cultural centre SODAS2123 the festival will start with a performance by sound, performance and multimedia artist Sasha Wilde. Their work intertwines themes of monstrosity, (trans)embodiment, eroticism and death. After the performance, the programme “Monsters” will continue with James Whale’s “Bride of Frankenstein” (1935), based on a fragment of Mary Shelley’s novel and considered a masterpiece of early cinema. The film displays a queer sensibility, a blurring of genre boundaries (horror and comedy), and features characters considered outsiders.
