Manuela is a single mother who has raised her son Esteban by herself since the time he was born. On his 17th birthday they go to see A Streetcar Named Desire and after the show, Esteban tries to get the main actress’ autograph, but is run down on the street. Manuela, struck with grief, decides to return to Barcelona to tell the boy’s father Lola, a transvestite, about the death of the son he never knew he had. He is nowhere to be found but Manuela does find an old friend, Agrado, and meets up with a pregnant nun, Rosa, and the actress idolized by her late son. Together they form a life and become fast friends.
Displaying Almodóvar’s trademark visual style and a unusually strong sense of character-driven drama, All About My Mother won the Best Director award at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
The film is chosen and presented by Elžbieta Latėnaitė, Lithuanian stage and film actress.
