Mina is in Cannes to perform for three nights during the Festival. She drifts from glittery clubs to hotel rooms, from lovers’ arms to those of friends. There’s Mina the performer, Mina the lover but also Mina the Italian singer from the 70’s, whom she evokes on stage every night.

Lesya and her daughter Anya are living in a refugee camp, grappling with the torment of blackmail related to the disappearance of Lesya’s husband, who went missing during the war a year ago. In the camp, Lesya reconnects with her old friend Maria, a widow who, like Lesya, is haunted by the loss of a loved one. As their bond deepens, the women find solace in each other’s shared grief. However, Anya begins to suspect that her mother’s relationship with Maria is evolving into something more than just a friendship.

This short film was born from an installation by Argentine textile artists Chiachio & Giannone. In it, a group of dancers, wearing dresses crafted and sublimated by the artists, challenge the choreography of the Pericón, the national folk dance, to question the portrayal of a homeland projected as white, binary, and civilized. The film rejects the conquest imaginary that narrated a void erasing diversity: we were no desert.
