A controversial artist blazes a trail for other gay image makers in New York’s 1980s scene, only to perish at the end of the decade from AIDS. The film uses Wojnarowicz’s own recordings, photos and paintings to let him tell his story. As New York City became the epicenter of the AIDS epidemic, Wojnarowicz weaponized his work and waged war against the establishment’s indifference to the plague until his death at the age of 37.
