A fictional world can be a refuge from harsh reality, but it begs the question – can we feel safe in our fantasies? Naive creatures conjured up by the artist have vulnerable queer bodies, but also exhibit elements of self-protection – claws, spikes, horns.

While away from home, the artist often returns to Kyiv in her thoughts, reliving vivid moments of memories through videos and photos of before. So the second part of the exhibition is a documentation of the performance Felt Cute, Might Delete Later, which talks about another manifestation of escapism – fleeing to digital reality during the pandemic.

Olena Siyatovska was born in Czechia. She grew up in Dnipro, Ukraine, lives and works in Kyiv. She studied at the National University of Oles Honchar (Ukraine). In her artistic practice Olena focuses on social relations, memory and identity in the digital dimension. She works with new media, video, performance and photo. Olena has participated in exhibitions and residencies in Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Germany and the US.
