An important aspect of my self-portraits is learning different ways of being. Talking about it is a little difficult, it still comes with a strong emotional charge, I still struggle to communicate it: I have learned, at one point, to do it through images but not necessarily words and not in all circumstances. Rooting out is an attempt to deal with the consequences of painful experiences. It is a process coming rather from within. While branching in is more about the environment: what gets imprinted on you changes your being somehow. It leaves imprints, markings, but it’s also I who is spreading into the environment. My self-portraits come about because I feel that they’re one way of talking about it: expressing my body and its tensions, its sensations. I don’t know, I’m never good at finishing sentences beautifully, there is always something left hanging…*
