Queer Readings. Orlando

The event will be held in Lithuanian.

The play Orlando draws on Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando: A Biography, written at the beginning of the 20th century. In Gabriele Labanauskaitė’s 21st-century play, as in the novel, a magnifying glass is held up to what it means to be a man and/or a woman artist in a world governed by patriarchal stereotypes and rules. We therefore invite everyone who cares about taking a critical look at outdated social norms and creating more ethical forms of communication to attend the reading and take part in the conversation.

The play will be read by participants of the Rainbow Musical: Ajus Jurgaitis, Frydrichas Mireckas, Jolita Pranskūnaitė, Tėja Snuviškė. The reading is directed by Greta Štiormer.

Gabrielė Labanauskaitė received an individual artist’s grant from the Lithuanian Council for Culture to create the play Orlando.
