Queer Vilnius

This walking tour, led by Dr. Rasa Navickaitė, is for those who want to learn more about the lives of LGBTQ people, the spaces they have created (and lost) in the city, homophobia, stereotypes, and the persecution of queer people, as well as conformity, repression, censorship, parties, love, and protest. We will explore the fact-based history of Vilnius’s queer community, alongside stories based on gossip, hearsay, and hopes. The walk was created in collaboration with Vilnius Museum.

Rasa Navickaitė is a researcher and senior lecturer at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science, Vilnius University. Her research focuses on LGBTQ+ history, homophobia and anti-gender movements, gender and sexuality in Eastern Europe, as well as feminist and queer theory. She holds a PhD in Comparative Gender Studies from the Central European University and has previously conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Vienna.
