The Best Short Film – Du Bist So Wunderbar (Paradise Europe) (dir. Leandro Goddinho, Paulo Menezes)
We are granting the Main Prize to Du Bist So Wunderbar (Paradise Europe) for the portrayal of topical and multifaceted realities of living between, among and against the different identities found in an urban setting. The cinematic quality and lo-fi aesthetics of the film reflect the occasionally humoristic, absurd or dramatic reality of so many people trying to navigate the city and maintain their own selfhood against the prejudices they encounter.
Jury’s Special Mention – Seagulls Cut Through the Sky (dir. Mariana Bártolo, Guillermo García López)
We are granting the Special Mention to the film Seagulls Cut Through the Sky for its truly cinematic quality which captures and preserves the reality soon to be gone; the visuals that speak for themselves, the pauses that add even more layers to this beautiful film. We also appreciate the gentle, yet deep approach towards the subject matter and, last but not least, we admire how the film touches upon existentialism and humanism which are also very much at risk of “gentrification”.
The films were judged by fiction and documentary filmmaker Lina Lužytė, Latvian queer feminist visual and performance artist and activist Mētra Saberova, and semiotician, film curator Ona Kotryna Dikavičiūtė.
Audience Award – Getty Abortions (dir. Franzis Kabisch)
