The Best Short Film – Water Sports (dir. Whammy Alcazaren)
We appreciated the bold form and the complexity of themes in this film. With captivating energy, the film delves into a passionate love story, elevating the personal to the universal by touching upon the climate crisis. It was a brave – and at times haunting – journey that we all felt was as enjoyable as it was important.
Jury’s Special Mention – Mud Under My Window (dir. Violette Delvoye)
The animation “The mud under my window” tells a knotty story about love, rage and sadness in queer family relations. We appreciated the melancholic visual language, delicate storytelling techniques, and fragile narrative addressing mental health and complex feelings from a child’s perspective.
Jury’s Special Mention and Audience Award – Gender Reveal (dir. Mo Matton)
For the queer joy found in de(con)struction of heteronormative narratives, genres and structures, that encourages us to come together in laughter and reclaim the act of celebration.
The films were judged by Mantė Valiūnaitė, film curator, film scholar, film critic, Augustas Gornatkevičius, theater director, lecturer, and Airi Triisberg, independent writer, curator, educator and organiser based in Tallinn.
