What does her long-standing relationship with the artist Bronė Jacevičiūtė-Jėčiūtė tell us, and what changes when we approach it through new ways of reading?

In this discussion, we will explore queer readings of the past: how do we recognise and interpret what was silenced, unnamed, or simply invisible in earlier histories? What do we lose if we dismiss queer readings as anachronistic, imposing today’s categories onto the past? And what do we risk losing if we rely on these categories too confidently?

Together, we will also consider how to avoid idealising historical figures. Do the heroes of our queer cultural histories have to be fighters and activists, always making the “right” choices?
